Larry Crane, our vice president, was in Pierre and met with the Board.   Larry said that this information will be announced to the 2010 State Legislature this coming Fall.

The president of the school said that the Legislature will not be involved in any of the finances at this stage of operation.

State Libraries

Do you know that there are very few libraries in our state that subscribe to architectural magazines?  I have been

giving my issues (as well as Interior Design) to the Sioux Falls libraries for the past 10 years on a regular basis.

If you are just stacking them in a corner think about your library.  Sure I tear things out of them, but it is better than

no magazine.  Looking back on growing up in Watertown – I went to the library and enjoyed what magazine they

had on architecture. It hurts me to think that they are not available to our young people of today.  ww

NCARB Survey Indicates 112,650 Registered Architects in the U.S.
On average, most architects licensed in two jurisdictions

Summary: The 2007 survey of state architectural registration boards by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), released May 11, indicates that there are currently 112,650 registered architects in the U.S. This year's findings reflect a 4.5 percent increase over the prior year in NCARB's fifth annual survey.

More than 3,800 initial licenses were granted to architects in the past year, an increase of 34.5 percent over last year. The 2007 survey also reveals that there are 109,546 reciprocal (out-of state) architects and 222,196 total registrations. This means, on average, an architect is registered in at least two different jurisdictions. California has the highest number of resident architects (16,894) and the highest number of total registrations (21,852).

NCARB's Quality Assurance Division collects data for the survey from its 54 member boards, which includes all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NCARB makes this information available annually as a service to the profession. For more information, contact NCARB, 202-783-6500.
